It’s a Marathon Not a Sprint — Actually, It’s Seven Marathons
Conquering Seven Marathons on Seven Continents in Seven Days with Andrew Razzano, D.O.
Your first step to prepare for running seven marathons on seven continents in seven days is figuring out how to pack like a minimalist when everything about what you’re going to do is extra. Jokes aside, when Dan Rebella decided to go for this very thing, the gravity immediately hit him.
“The race I competed in is called the Great World Race, and it had never been done before,” shared Dan. “Once I signed up, I began to really think about the actual detail of it, and I needed to bring in another level of knowledge than what I had.”
Beacon treats me like a professional athlete, even though I’m not. That was the mentality that Beacon brought to me, which was absolutely important, mission-critical important, for my weekend warrior mentality.” — Dan Rebella
That’s when he reached out to Beacon’s Andrew Razzano, D.O. for support.
As Medical Director for the Cincinnati Reds, Dr. Razzano knows a thing or two about working with high-performing athletes. “Taking elite athletes and having them do extreme things, we’re capable of doing that, but how do you optimize their training for it? Fortunately, for us at Beacon, we have the right resources, facilities, and institutional knowledge at our fingertips.”
What happened next was nothing short of magic. Dan was the right person, partnered with the right sports medicine specialist, aligned with the right health system to get him into peak condition for a peak performance. He worked with determination, intention and grit alongside Dr. Razzano to fully prepare himself—physically and mentally—for the grueling, yet rewarding, seven-day event.
“What Beacon brings to the table are two really, really important and enlightening elements for me,” Dan revealed. “The proper type of training and the support to be able to do that type of training. It has been fundamental to my success.”
“Helping every patient get to their finish line is I’m here.” — Andrew Razzano, D.O.
Training for the Impossible
For Dan’s training, Beacon set him up with his orthopedic fitness and maintenance program along with a training fitness program. That combination of support ensured proper body mechanics and a team at the ready to immediately address any physical issue that could happen during his training.
Dan elaborated, “Not in a, ‘hey, you’re just a person that we want to get up and running” kind of way but with a vested interest in my success. They treat me like a professional athlete, even though I’m not. That was the mentality that Beacon brought to me, which was absolutely important, mission-critical important, for my weekend warrior mentality.”
Making Your Goals Our Goals
And in the end, Dan’s success is Dr. Razzano’s success. Like all of our specialists, he’s here to help every patient reach their goal — from being able to walk with less pain to reaching the pinnacle of their sport.
