About Dr. Larkin
John J. Larkin, M.D., is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. Dr. Larkin has 40 years of experience working with occupational and sports-related injuries. He specializes in sports reconstructive surgery, occupational and worker’s compensation injuries, and cartilage transplants for the treatment of arthritis and total joint reconstruction. Dr. Larkin performs surgery at St. Elizabeth in Northern Kentucky to provide patients with the opportunity to have all their care done in Northern Kentucky, from clinic visits to physical therapy.
Dr. Larkin completed his undergraduate and medical schooling at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. After medical schooling in 1982, he completed a dual internship and residency at the prestigious Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, which consistently ranks as one of the top hospitals in the nation. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Larkin moved to the Greater Cincinnati area to complete a fellowship in sports medicine & orthopedic surgery at the Cincinnati Sports Medicine Midwest Institute for Orthopaedics in 1988.
Dr. Larkin has been recognized for several achievements throughout his tenured career. Most recently, he was named a 2021 Cincinnati Magazine Top Doctor. Dr. Larkin has been named to the Cincinnati Magazine Top Doctors List and America’s Top Surgeons List every year since 2002.
Out of the clinic office, Dr. Larkin is involved in many professional organizations. He is the Past Chairman of the Ohio Governor’s Advisory Board for Workers’ Compensation. He sat on the legislative committees of both the Ohio State Medical Society and the Northern Kentucky Medical Society. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Larkin is past president of the Academy of Medicine of Greater Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Orthopaedic Society. He joined Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in April of 2021.
