Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine uses your body’s own natural healing abilities to repair injured tissue, reduce pain, and restore function. Unlike steroid injections or pain medications, these treatments aim to promote long-term healing at the site of injury.

Dr. Matic uses advanced Arthrex® systems for platelet-rich plasma (PRP), bone marrow concentrate, and adipose (fat-derived) injections. These treatments are performed in the office and are minimally invasive.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy:

PRP is a concentration of your body’s own platelets and growth factors, made from a small sample of your blood. Platelets normally circulate in the bloodstream in an inactive state. When you are injured, they become activated, releasing proteins called growth factors that signal your body to repair damaged tissue. In this procedure, your blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate platelets from other blood components. The result is a solution with much higher levels of platelets and healing proteins than are normally present in blood. This concentrated solution is then injected into the injured area to support healing. Benefits include possible pain reduction, improved function, and promotion of long-term tissue healing by using your own cells.

Common Uses
Tendon injuries (tennis elbow, patellar tendinopathy, partial rotator cuff tears), arthritis and joint pain (knee, shoulder, hip), sports injuries (ligament sprains, muscle strains), and to support post-surgical healing

Bone Marrow (BMAC) Therapy:

Bone marrow is the soft, spongy tissue found inside your bones. It contains many important cells, especially mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)—also called medicinal signaling cells. MSCs can develop into bone, cartilage, and muscle, and they also release signals that help existing cells repair damaged tissue. During the procedure, bone marrow is collected (often from the pelvis) and then concentrated using a centrifuge, such as the Arthrex Angel® system. This process removes unwanted material and produces a concentrated sample rich in MSCs and other signaling cells, which is then injected into the injured area. Compared to PRP, BMAC provides a higher concentration of regenerative cells

Common Uses
Advanced arthritis, cartilage injuries, difficult tendon and ligament injuries, and cases where PRP alone may not be enough

Adipose (Fat-Derived) Cell Therapy:

Adipose tissue (fat) plays many roles in the body, including storing energy, releasing hormones, and providing cushioning and support. Adipose is one of the most abundant sources of regenerative cells—containing 150× to 500× more reparative cells than other tissues. Research shows that these regenerative properties are maintained with age, making adipose a reliable option for patients of all ages. Using the Arthrex AutoPose™ system, a small amount of fat is collected (often from the abdomen or thigh), processed, and reinjected into the injured joint or tissue to support healing and function. Adipose cell therapy provides a powerful, age-independent source of regenerative cells that may support tissue healing and joint health.

Common Uses
Arthritis (knees, hips, shoulders), joint preservation, chronic tendon or ligament injuries, and plantar fasciitis
