Cincinnati, OH – Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine has launched a limited documentary series, Hardball, Three Strikes, Not Out, focusing on Cincinnati Reds‘ pitcher Tejay Antone’s potentially career-ending injury and his journey to overcome it.
After suffering a season-ending injury, Tejay Antone took the podium in front of the Cincinnati media and said, “I think I have an opportunity to be the person that makes it back from three [surgeries]. I know I have the perseverance. I know I have the work ethic. And with the team of medical experts that are around, why not me?”
Shortly after the injury, Tejay spoke privately with Dr. Timothy Kremchek and C. Trent Rosecrans (The Athletic/New York Times) and decided to make this journey public. “I think I have an opportunity and responsibility to do this not only for myself, but other kids out there dealing with this” said Antone.
“Our intention with this series is to highlight the incredible perseverance that Tejay has shown throughout his baseball career. This kid was never expected to make it,” stated Dr. Timothy Kremchek of Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. “I want to give him all the options he wants, whether it’s coaching or trying to come back to the big leagues. I want this to be his decision, not a decision because of his elbow.”
Kelsi Antone, Tejay’s wife, provides perspective on the journey the two have been on together through three operations. “I think at this point, we’re now addicted to this rollercoaster we’ve been on with baseball,” said Kelsi.
SERIES OVERVIEW.
EPISODE ONE, S1 E1: A kid from Texas who was never the best player on the field, Tejay Antone, leaves Texas Christian University to find more playing time. Kelsi (Tejay’s wife) redefines Tejay’s definition of “athlete,” and they navigate the ups and downs of his MLB journey. Grit and determination pay off, but his fourth appearance of the 2024 season in Cincinnati delivers a gut-wrenching blow to his dreams.
EPISODE TWO, S1 E2: Go inside the operating room as Reds’ team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kremchek operates to repair Tejays elbow. Kelsi decides to view the 3-hour procedure and observes the intricacies of the Beacon OR staff. Tejay defines success and learns the outcome of the surgery.
