Physical Therapy for Sports Injuries

Almost every athlete will experience an injury at some point in their careers. Whether you’re a pro or casual player, athletic activity puts you at risk. Your injury may be due to an inadequate warmup, poor training, overuse or a single traumatic event. Coping with these injuries can be difficult, but with proper care and physical therapy, many athletes can come back to the game they love.

Physical therapy is a crucial step in recovering from a sports injury. Not only can it help heal the injury itself, it helps rebuild the strength and range of motion necessary to prevent another injury. It can also help reduce stiffness and pain when done correctly and hot/cold therapy is utilized.

Physical therapists are professionals trained to help patients recover from an injury. They guide patients through exercises, techniques, and stretches to achieve recovery and prevent future injuries. Whether it’s recovering from a sprained ankle or a severe fracture, physical therapists are trained to assist patients at all levels.

Physical therapy for sports injuries involves several goals for the patient. The first is helping the injury heal via safe exercises and stretches. The second is to refine the body mechanics of the athlete and to build up strength so the injury doesn’t happen again. Learning proper movement mechanics is just as vital as building up strength when it comes to injury prevention. Ultimately, healing and prevention are the primary reasons someone may go to a physical therapist for a sports injury.

Beacon’s Physical Therapy for Sports Injuries and Prevention

At Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, we provide compassionate, state-of-the-art orthopedic care that assists the needs of patients with a wide range of orthopedic and sports medicine injuries. Along with general physical therapy for sports injuries, we also offer a variety of specialized programs for athletes of specific sports. These programs include:

The Bridge Program

This unique program is designed for those individuals who have suffered an injury and who have completed formal rehabilitation for that injury.  After clearance from a qualified orthopedic professional, this unique, functional training program can bridge the gap from the rehabilitation clinic to playing a sport again.

The Golf Rehabilitation and Performance Program

The Golf Rehabilitation Program utilizes the expertise of a physical therapist with a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) level 3 medical certification to provide a comprehensive assessment for golf rehabilitation and performance. Those recovering from an orthopedic injury, or healthy individuals looking to optimize their golf game, are welcome in this program.

The Baseball Throwing Program

This comprehensive baseball program is designed for baseball athletes who have completed their formal rehabilitation and have been cleared by their orthopedic physician. This program focuses on getting players back on the mound or field safely. We use the latest motion tracking technology, Motus, to monitor proper throwing technique and use specific throwing routines to help athletes return to play and remain healthy.

The Running Analysis Program

This program caters to the avid runner trying to return to training or runners who are already participating in races. It consists of a personal evaluation, video analysis, and personal exercise/training recommendations to get runners back on their feet or prevent injuries altogether.
