Durable medical equipment (DME) is medical supplies that helps people with a disability or injury complete their daily tasks, such as walking. This equipment is ordered by a healthcare professional when the patient cannot perform everyday tasks or needs assistance with mobility. The term “durable medical equipment” refers to medical equipment that can be used over and over, hence the term “durable.”
