REGIONAL NATA CEREMONY RECOGNIZES ALL SOUTHEAST INDIANA HIGH SCHOOLS RECEIVING SAFE SPORTS AWARDS

A region-wide National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Awards program recognizing the Highpoint Health Physical Therapy Department and local high school athletic programs took place on Friday, January 4, between the River Town Classic basketball games at South Dearborn High School.

The evening featured the girls’ consolation game between Rising Sun and Switzerland County High Schools, and the girls’ championship game between Lawrenceburg and South Dearborn High Schools.  River Town is sponsored each year by Highpoint Health Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine and Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.

In 2018, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association of Carrollton, Texas, presented Lawrenceburg, Milan, Rising Sun, South Dearborn, South Ripley, and Switzerland County High Schools with Safe Sports School 2nd Team recognition.  To obtain this, high school athletic programs must have accomplished numerous goals, including providing safe and well-maintained facilities and equipment; creating an emergency plan; developing injury and illness prevention strategies; providing pre-participation physical examinations; and offering a permanent, appropriately equipped area to treat injured athletes.

Highpoint Health’s Athletic Trainers, who provide coverage for Southeastern Indiana school sports programs, assisted the schools in obtaining their awards.

Attending the recognition of the NATA Awards were David Argo, M.D., Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgeon and Medical Director of the Highpoint Health Sports Medicine Outreach Program; Jennifer Bostic, LAT/ATC, PTA, Highpoint Health Athletic Training Coordinator; Brandie Goad, ATC, Beacon Orthopaedics and Lawrenceburg High School Athletic Trainer; Josh Uhlmansiek, LAT/ATC, PTA, Highpoint Health Physical Therapist Assistant and Rising Sun High School Athletic Trainer; Abigail Walters, ATC/L, Highpoint Health and South Dearborn High School Athletic Trainer; and Cliff Willoughby, LAT/ATC, PTA, Highpoint Health Physical Therapist Assistant and Switzerland County High School Athletic Trainer.
