Beacon Welcomes Dr. Tyler Williford to Its Sports Medicine Team

Dr. Williford talking to a patientBeacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is pleased to welcome Tyler Williford, M.D., a fellowship trained Primary Care Sports Medicine physician, to our team. Dr.

Williford will primarily serve patients in the Dayton area at the Miamisburg location, providing comprehensive, non-surgical sports medicine care for athletes and active individuals of all ages.

Dr. Williford completed his Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky, where he gained extensive experience caring for athletes across multiple sports and levels of competition. He provided coverage for University of Kentucky athletics, including football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball, and track and field. He also served as a primary sideline physician for Kentucky State University football and basketball and gained additional experience covering Eastern Kentucky University, Georgetown College and high school athletics.

His fellowship also provided extensive training in musculoskeletal ultrasound, ultrasound guided procedures, concussion management and return to play evaluation. Just as importantly, Dr. Williford says the opportunity to train under physicians with different areas of expertise helped shape the way he practices medicine.

“One of the strengths of my fellowship was learning from physicians who approached sports medicine differently,” said Dr. Williford. “I was able to take the best parts of those experiences and develop an approach to patient care that is my own.”

For Dr. Williford, the path to sports medicine began years earlier as a young athlete growing up in West Chester. He played football and basketball at Moeller and experienced the Beacon difference from the patient side after sustaining injuries.

While attending The Ohio State University, he also had the opportunity to shadow Beacon physician Dr. Timothy Kremchek, an experience that helped solidify his decision to pursue sports medicine.

Those experiences continue to influence the way he approaches his patients today. “Having been an injured athlete myself, I understand how important it is to get back,” said Dr. Williford. “It is not just about treating the injury. You have to understand the athlete, where they are in their season and what they are trying to get back to.”

Dr. Williford earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed his family medicine residency at Loyola MacNeal in the Chicago area before completing his primary care sports medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky.

His practice at Beacon will include patients across a wide range of ages and activity levels, from youth and competitive athletes to runners, weekend warriors and active adults. His clinical interests include acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, concussion management, return to play evaluation, musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound guided procedures.

As he begins his practice with Beacon, Dr. Williford is particularly excited about helping expand Beacon’s sports medicine presence throughout the Dayton and Miamisburg communities.

“I want Beacon to become a go-to destination for sports medicine in the Dayton and Miamisburg area,” said Dr. Williford. “When an athlete gets hurt, I want them and their family to know there is a place they can turn to for quality sports medicine care.” Outside of medicine, Dr. Williford lives in West Chester with his wife and two young children. He enjoys spending time with his family, being outdoors and working on his golf game.
