Eric began his career with the Cincinnati Reds in 2005, as a major league starter. He was fielding a ball off the mound early in the spring of 2006,when his left knee began to bother him. His knee was cleaned out or debrided through a outpatient arthroscopic surgery in Cincinnati at the Beacon Orthopaedic Center . Later in the spring he returned to the mound  painfree for the Reds in the 2006 season.
