Beacon Is First To Perform Surgery w/ Stryker’s 1588 AIM Platform

Cincinnati, OH 2/2/2016 – Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is once again leading the charge in mainstreaming new advanced medical technology.  Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine became the first in the United States to use the 1588 AIM Platform in surgery.  Stryker’s advanced video system reduces risk to patients by improving clarity and definition during surgeries. This advancement is intended to improve the surgeon’s view and safeguard patients’ critical anatomy.

Beacon’s greatest objective is to provide each patient with the highest quality of personalized care and best possible outcomes.  The Stryker 1588 AIM Platform facilitates both by integrating with the Stryker MySDC3 iPad application. The MySDC3 App gives physicians the power to share instructions and educational material with patients digitally, and also allows physicians to review HD surgical footage with a patient’s family on their iPad.

As increasing personalization is also important, the App allows physicians to record a video to talk through the results and advise the best route to recovery, making it sharable for the patient to view when they return home. The entire idea around the app and state of the art surgical video equipment is to allow physicians to communicate more effectively with patients.

The 1588 AIM is the first minimally invasive video system to seamlessly integrate unique advanced imaging modalities for surgical procedures. These imaging modalities are designed to enhance visualization of anatomy intra-operatively, with a goal of reducing risk to the patient during surgery:

  • Dynamic Range Enhancement (DRE) is designed to improve lighting in the visual field by brightening dark and posterior compartments, allowing surgeons to view critical anatomy with optimal clarity and definition.
  • Desaturation decreases the saturation of color in the image, which is a preference that varies by surgeon and specialty.

Stryker’s 1588 AIM Platform and iPad app integration are major technological advancements. They provide a progressive approach to leverage the most cutting-edge arthroscopic equipment. Delivering instant, comprehensive information to our patients and their families allows significant separation and advancement from current practices. The 1588 AIM, along with the SDC3 iPad app, provides communication opportunities with our colleagues around the country for better care all around. We are excited about what this means for our doctors, but we are most excited about what this means for our patients,”  as summarized by Dr. Timothy Kremchek of Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Cincinnati, OH.
