Orthobiologics
Beacon Orthopaedics offers trusted alternatives to surgery, to provide patients with a broad spectrum of care options. Beacon offers orthobiological options that facilitate healing, without surgical intervention.
Platelet Injections
This treatment is most commonly used in patients with osteoarthritis in the hip, knee or shoulder. Patients seeking non-surgical options for chronic tendonitis in the ankle or elbow often choose these treatments as well. More conservative methods of treatment are typically attempted first, such as rest, medication, physical therapy, etc., but when those methods fail, these treatment options can be a nice alternative.
Bone Marrow Concentrate Treatment
This treatment includes the body’s repair cells that can help decrease pain and improve function in injured joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles. They have been shown, along with injections, to help stop, or arrest the arthritic process in joints. This treatment can keep arthritis from progressing in a joint and allow it to work in a normal fashion with a decrease in pain and improved function, and in the right patient, avoid the need for joint replacement. Contrary to what is often posted on websites across the internet and sent in the mail, these treatments DO NOT produce new cartilage. The treatment has been shown to help heal muscle, tendons, and ligaments throughout the body including the spine.
Perineural Injection Treatment (PIT) (Lyftogt Technique)
Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT) is a proven safe, effective treatment for patients who may not be good candidates for joint replacement surgery or biologic options such as Bone Marrow Concentrate treatments. Perineural injections are used for treating inflamed and injured nerves causing chronic pain. This pain is often due to trauma, arthritis, sports, overuse, occupational, and surgical injuries.
Neural Prolotherapy
Neural Prolotherapy (short for proliferant therapy) is a treatment used to treat pain arising from joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles, and the connective tissue that holds these structures together. Pain from these structures may be due to injury, overuse, normal wear and tear (degeneration), and nerve injury or irritation.
Prolotherapy uses solutions such as concentrated dextrose that produce a minor injury or inflammation to these structures. Connective tissue such as ligaments and tendons have a very poor blood supply and this severely limits the ability of these tissues to heal themselves as living tissue needs a healthy blood supply to maintain nourishment and repair itself.

Adipose (Fat-Derived) Cell Therapy
Adipose tissue (fat) plays many roles in the body, including storing energy, releasing hormones, and providing cushioning and support. Adipose is one of the most abundant sources of regenerative cells—containing 150× to 500× more reparative cells than other tissues. Research shows that these regenerative properties are maintained with age, making adipose a reliable option for patients of all ages. Using the Arthrex AutoPose™ system, a small amount of fat is collected (often from the abdomen or thigh), processed, and reinjected into the injured joint or tissue to support healing and function. Adipose cell therapy provides a powerful, age-independent source of regenerative cells that may support tissue healing and joint health.

EPAT (Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology)
Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT), also known as shock wave therapy, is an office-based, non-invasive, evidence-based, FDA compliant treatment for upper and lower extremity musculoskeletal pain that results from acute and overuse injuries. These injuries can be due to athletic, work, recreational, and normal daily activities.
